The starting point was migrating from a simple static site running without any CMS to WordPress. This required not only building a new template, but also checking and adapting the server to WordPress’s requirements (PHP support and a database), and then installing and configuring the CMS itself, which the client didn’t have before.
Another challenge was matching the scope of functionality to the restaurant’s actual needs, rather than the default set of features used in typical restaurant websites. Together with the client, we determined which features to use and which to drop, in order to arrive at the ideal solution.
The menu was a separate topic. The client wanted the ability to upload menu files and swap them independently as the seasonal offer changed. This required designing a simple mechanism on the admin panel side.
A visual challenge was translating the character of the restaurant’s actual interior onto the website, so it would work as a seamless extension of the experience guests have on site, rather than a simplified, generic version of it.
